Vista D'oro Farms & Winery is a 10 acre farm located on Campbell Valley Park in the Fraser Valley of beautiful British Columbia, Canada. The farm is four blocks from the US border and 45 minutes South of Vancouver. Vista D'oro, for those with an Italian influence, represents the view of Golden Ears Mountain Range the farm enjoys.
We grow naturally, and while not a certified farm, is quite a diversified farm. Currently growing five varieties of grapes, orchard fruits; apples, pears, plums and cherries, all of which are heritage varieties and grown for taste, not ship-ability. We also take our chances and grow heirloom tomatoes, which we start in our glass greenhouse from seed and grow outdoors in our riding ring over the summer (the horses get the back field!) All of the fruit grown is primarily used in our preserves and wines. We produce everything on the farm and about 80% of what is grown on the farm ends up in a jar or bottle, the rest gets delivered to Vancouver's finest restaurants kitchens!
We built a carriage house on the property in 2002 and incorporated a commercial kitchen and have recently added 'the Preservatory', where we create and produce all of our artisanal preserves. Our preserves are made using traditional cooking methods combined with distinctive flavour pairings, utilizing 'at their peak' in-season fruits. Whether served on a cheese board or alongside fresh baked scones; our preserves are truly versatile, simple delicious and always seasonal.
The carriage house is also home to the Fermentation Room of the winery, where Patrick works his magic. In 2001, a reverent union occurred between Vista D'oro's three majestic 100 year old English walnut trees and a traditional Northern France recipe that dates back to 1796. The Doros namesake pays homage to both the local revitalization of the passed-on recipe as well as to the original creator, Jerome Dudicourt's farming grandfather, Jean-Baptiste. As such, the Doro is meant to honour a family's celebratory toast to not only Jean-Baptiste's incredible 98 years of life but, what Grandfather Baptiste would say to his family each time he departed for yet another war, "If I don't return, drink it in celebration of life!" True to the wines historical dedication every Bastille Day, Vista D'oro gathers close friends and family for a day to celebrate the harvest of another batch of green walnuts. The Doro is an artisanally crafted, fortified port-style wine made with BCs finest small lot vinifera. It is a blend of Marechal Foch, Merlot & Cabernet Franc married with the pressing off of Vista D'oro Green Walnuts from its macerating partner Okanagan Gamay Noir Brandy.
We've restored the original farmhouse on the property and it now houses the winery Tasting Room as well as our Farmgate Market, where offerings from our farm and other local producers are available year round. We look forward to sharing our love of delicious food and excellent wine with you soon!Lee & Patrick Murphy
